Governing Principles

The quality of a town's school system is a primary attraction for those families with children seeking to relocate. North Kingstown has been recognized for its quality schools and must strive to improve the quality of education provided to all of its K-12 students enrolled in the North Kingstown School Department. 

The five elected members of the North Kingstown Town Council serve at the pleasure of the citizens of the town who elected them. Good government requires that the Town Council objectively considers dissenting perspectives on the issues that affect our town. The Town council should actively promote the public's participation in regular meetings.  

The quality of life in North Kingstown is directly linked to the preservation of a healthy environment, including the town's air and groundwater. The need to further develop the town should be balanced with the associated risks to the environment. 

North Kingstown needs to be a welcoming place where all who live here feel included and appreciated for their individual identities. 

The North Kingstown Town Council has the responsibility to set the conditions for the economic growth of the town. A strong local economy helps to provide the financial resources needed to fund the town's schools, public safety departments, and other town operations. The Town Council should be open to the recommendations of the town's Economic Development Advisory Commission (EDAC) and other town boards, commissions, and committee's on matters dealing with economic development.
